The Hammer Comes Down!

My employer, notable for being one of the earliest tech companies to start bringing people back to the office (April 2020!), transitioned to full-time in the US offices at the beginning of July. Today's email says everyone must be vaccinated by October 1. There are some exceptions, but they will be limited and require weekly testing.

Good. I have no time for someone who works at a tech company and doesn't believe in science.

[Of course, I still work remotely, but I did go in to the office while in CA last month. For one day. Breathing shallowly...OK, not really. But I left my mask on at my desk, which is apparently a step beyond the requirements.]

Wow, I didn't realize! Are you feeling relieved about your remote status?

Our company just pushed back return-to-office to January 2022. Rob and I are grappling with the fact that we're on for Motiv8's (Sweden) that month and this time Sweden's not canceling. I'm not very calm about it.

I am _very_ relieved at the combo of luck and privilege that let me and the kids stay home until the vaccines were out. Jen was working in person because her school is run by lunatics, but she's not there anymore, so screw 'em. She'll be working in person this fall, but it's kindergarten -- that's the way it needs to be. But she'll be masked and vaxxed, so we're good. I'm hoping the vaccine approval for younger kids comes through soon.
