I grew up an Army brat. I went to Caltech and studied Physics and Math. Then I went to Berkeley to study Theoretical Particle Physics, but burned out and left with a Master's degree as the consolation prize for our departing contestants. Bitter? No, why do you ask?
With my dreams of dying penniless and insane, lying in a gutter after a career of Mad Science, hopelessly dashed, I had to get a real job...eventually. After a couple of years of working in a pharmaceutical warehouse, I finally sold out and joined a tech start-up. This doomed my prospects of living in abject poverty, but on the plus side I could move out of the garage in which I was living. (Well, more of a third or quarter of a garage. But it was in Palo Alto, so it was an upscale garage fraction.)
These days I have a wife, an 11-year-old son, twin 8-year-old girls, and a 4-year-old son. I fiddle with software during the day. Life is pretty good. Hey, it's at least better than a Boot to the Head. Remember,
"Whether you can hear it or not, the Universe is laughing behind your back." -Deteriorata
I have 25 years of experience; I hear the laughter very clearly. The only proper response is to spin around and laugh right back.
